Yang Liu, PhD

I’m highly interested in drug discovery and development, and with strong research and development experience in stem cell biology and cell and gene therapy for genetic diseases. One of my discoveries recently received FDA Orphan Drug Designation for the gene therapy strategy of a genetic blood disorder, Diamond-Blackfan anemia. I also discovered a small molecule for the treatment of Cystic Fibrosis relevant tendon regeneration, which has been patented. In total, I have published 25 research articles and given oral presentations at 10 more international conferences in the US, Europe and Asia.

I obtained my PhD from the Department of Orthoepaedic and Traumatology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong under the direction of Prof. Gang Li. After graduation, I pursued postdoc training in Stefan Karlsoon Lab in Lund University, Sweden. I'm currently working as a research specialist in Roland Fiskesund and Joel Nordin labs at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden.

During my free time, I enjoy traveling, reading and cooking.

I apply both molecular biology and next generation sequencing to discover novel therapeutics through working with cell, mouse and human disease models.
Gene therapy development for genetic blood disorder • CRISPR-Cas9 for genome engineering • Digital droplet PCR • Multi-colour flow cytometry • single-cell RNA-Seq analysis by Python • Isolation and culture of hematopoietic/mesenchymal stem cells • Animal models for hematopoiesis & musculoskeletal tissue regeneration • Proteomics • Molecular biology
I'm also good at followings as a researcher
Project strategic plan • Presentation and communication • Scientific writing
